This has done that is he constantly searching for perfection, in every drawing he makes and in every move he takes. When he founds Dorian Gray, the young boy changes Hallward´s whole way of painting and way Hallward sees art. For Basil Hallward, Dorian is true perfection, from his beautiful face and bone structure Basil have himself recognized him to the ancient Greek Gods. And the painting of Dorian Gray turns out to be so much more than just a painting in his collection. Dorian Grey becomes and opens a totally new chapter in Basil´s life and Dorian do also becomes one of Basil most loved ones.
Basil is unfortunaly easy manipulated because of his kindness. He does believe the very best in everyone and has a solid belief in the human being. Thus Basil does not realize when people are trying to take advantage of him. Basil Hallward has the problem, of many people, that he cannot seem to find the thin line between enemies and friends, referring to the animal world the animal with the most beautiful appearance can be the most venomous. This is something Basil Hallward has not really understood which later on will cost him his life after being clenched. As a character from the romantic era, Basil Hallward does not overanalyze how creatures were created, just that they were created to be watch and loved, something Basil is trying to capture in his paintings and therefor it can be analyzed that that´s the main reason he became a painter.
