Aestheticism & Hedonism
Aestheticism and hedonism are two central ideas of the Romanticism. During the Romantic era the priority and focus among people and scholars shifted from the science oriented Age of Enlightenment to a more artistic and emotionally inspired era. Mathematics was replaced with art and logic was replaced with creativity.
Aestheticism is a perfect example of this. In the idea of Aestheticism the aesthetic values are the top priority and are far more important than the logical, social and moral values that exist. This means that you should be able to compromise your moral values if you do it for art and aesthetics. Aestheticism is basically an art movement and it emphasis that all forms of music, literature and art firstly should serve an aesthetic function before it serves for example an educational or informal function.
Hedonism is from the beginning an ancient idea that developed out of Greece but it really caught on during the Romanticism. It is the one of the two ideas that still is active in a relatively large volume today. Hedonism is the movement for all joy junkies that priories their joy before everything else. The idea of this movement is to reach the maximal net pleasure; you should enjoy life with minimal pain, no matter what. In hedonism you should not do what society or anybody else thinks is good for you but do the things that satisfy you the most. It is shown that hedonism today becomes very popular among teenagers whom graduated high school but now wants to enjoy life and do what they like and enjoy instead of continue their studies, whether it is traveling, working abroad or just relaxing and taking it easy.
